Quick Eye De-Puffing: A 5-Minute Morning Ritual to Brighten Tired Eyes
Share
I’m a skincare formulator from China, and today I want to share a simple, 5-minute eye de-puffing routine that can make a noticeable difference—especially if you wake up with puffy eyes, like my friend Andy did. After just a week of practicing this, he noticed his eyes looked fresher, more awake, and the puffiness was visibly reduced.
Why Do Eyes Get Puffy?
Morning puffiness usually comes down to two main factors: poor sleep and excess salt. When you don’t get enough rest or stay up late, your body’s organs don’t get the downtime needed to flush out toxins and balance fluids. Salt causes your body to retain water, which often collects in delicate areas like under the eyes, causing puffiness.
Other contributors include stress, alcohol the night before, allergies, and hormonal changes—common situations for busy women balancing work, family, and daily life. Imagine waking up after a late night, a little wine with your spouse, a restless toddler next to you, or preparing for an early morning work meeting—your eyes will definitely show it!
Step 1: Open Your Eye Points (Kai Xue / 开穴)
Before touching the eye area, take a moment to “open” your eye points. This is called Kai Xue in traditional Chinese skincare—a practice that stimulates key acupoints around the eyes, awakens circulation, and releases tension. Opening the points can also enhance a sense of calm and happiness, making your morning feel more mindful and intentional.
The seven key points to activate are:
- Zan Zhu (攒竹) – inner ends of the eyebrows
- Qing Ming (晴明) – inner corners of the eyes
- Yu Yao (鱼腰) – center of the eyebrow
- Si Zhu Kong (丝竹空) – temples near the eyebrows
- Tong Zi Liao (童子) – outer corner of the eye socket
- Cheng Qi (承泣) – under the eyes on the orbital bone
- Si Bai (四白) – below the pupils on the cheekbone

Gently press each point for about 3 seconds to stimulate circulation and release tension. Focus on feeling the subtle warmth and awakening sensation—it’s a small moment of self-care that can instantly improve your morning mood.
Step 2: Circular Eye Massage
Next, use your fingertips or a gentle tool in a counterclockwise circular motion around the eyes. Start from the inner corner, moving along the orbital bone to the outer corner, and then back. This encourages lymphatic drainage, tightens delicate skin, and naturally reduces puffiness.
For an extra boost, apply a few drops of Rose Radiance Facial Oil to make the massage smoother and provide hydration and antioxidants for the skin.
Step 3: Treat Your Eyes Gently
When massaging, press softly and never cause pain—the skin around your eyes is the thinnest and most delicate in the body. This gentle approach not only prevents irritation but can also help delay fine lines and wrinkles over time. Consistency is key: a few minutes every morning can make a big difference in eye health and appearance.
Why This Matters for Busy Women
If you’re juggling work, family, and daily stress—like waking up early to get your child ready for school after a late night meeting, nursing a mild headache from a small glass of wine, checking emails before breakfast, or rushing to make breakfast for everyone—these small, mindful moments of self-care can help you feel more centered, alert, and refreshed. Over time, regular eye care can also prevent fatigue-related dark circles and promote healthier, more youthful-looking eyes.
